About Cleantech Hubs

Cleantech Hubs – Innovations by Sweden is a joint Swedish government and industry-led initiative founded in 2017 to support Swedish cleantech innovations and to promote a sustainable energy system. It comprises of a number of leading Swedish suppliers of technology and services within Cleantech, supported by the Swedish Energy Agency and Business Sweden.

Background and objectives

The Swedish government has longstanding focus on cleantech and is keen to share experience and expertise with international partners. The Swedish Energy Agency is working actively with the conversion of the energy system. Given Sweden’s long experience and strong expertise in cleantech, and more specifically in the field of innovation of renewable energy, sustainable technologies and green transport, the programme was established to spread knowledge and innovations internationally. The pogramme aims to support Swedish cleantech companies to grow internationally by the establishment of three cleantech hubs in San Francisco, London and Shanghai.

The Cleantech Hubs long-term vision is to accelerate the expansion of Cleantech innovation as a mean to lower CO2 emissions and increase energy efficiency and security in the US, UK and China. The initiative also aims at inspiring and developing new ideas and technology as well as increase the collaboration between businesses and political stakeholders across the hubs and Sweden and facilitate two-way knowledge sharing between local and Swedish companies.

The project team

The Swedish Energy Agency is the initiator and the main sponsor behind the Cleantech Hubs programme, supported by Business Sweden, who will be responsible for managing the local hubs.

The Swedish Energy Agency – works for a sustainable energy system, combining ecological sustainability, competitiveness and security of supply. The Swedish Energy Agency is subordinate to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy and finances research for new and renewable energy technologies, smart grids, and vehicles and transport fuels of the future as well as the commercialization and growth of energy related cleantech.

Business Sweden – the Swedish Trade and Investment Council, is owned by the Swedish Government and the industry. Business Sweden’s purpose is to help Swedish companies reach their full international potential and foreign companies to invest and expand in Sweden.

Cleantech Hubs – Innovations by Sweden is a Team Sweden initiative which brings together Swedish associations and industry stakeholders. We are also working with the governments, local authorities and  industry stakeholders across the three hubs to promote the development of cleantech globally.
